Healtha’s Story: When My Mother Got Sick

It all started with a simple, yet terrifying question: “Where can I find a good doctor for Ma, and how quickly?”

Hi, I am Md Borhan Uddin, founder of Healtha.io. Healtha is not just an ordinary doctor directory in Bangladesh; it’s an emotion that arose when my Mother was hospitalized. This was the desperate cry I faced as a founder. For three long years, my beloved mother battled many illnesses, from hormone issues to severe back pain and more. Then, in 2024, she passed away 😭.

During those difficult times, there was a moment I vividly remember. Ma needed an urgent injection, and I had her reports in my hand, desperate for a quick consultation. I needed a senior doctor to decide if the injection was safe to give. The intern doctors on duty, understandably, couldn’t make that call without permission. I urgently needed a specialist, someone experienced who could look at the reports and make a quick decision.

I immediately started looking for doctors in Chittagong. I called everywhere – from Agrabad Maa-O-Shishu Hospital to Chawkbazar and Chittagong Medical College Hospital. I tried calling the hospital helplines for emergency appointments, hoping to get a quick serial. But most of the time, the lines were busy, or even switched off. It was like talking to a wall. I felt a deep helplessness, a knot in my stomach growing bigger with every failed call.

Then I tried searching online. I typed and typed, hoping to find updated doctor lists. But what I found made me even more frustrated. Most of the doctor’s information was old – two, three years out of date. Which doctor was available now? Who was actually practicing? It was like trying to find a needle in a haystack, and with my mother suffering, every wasted minute felt like an hour. The worry and anxiety were immense. I thought, “Why is it so hard to find reliable health information in our own country?”

That painful experience, that feeling of being lost and alone when my mother needed help most, became the powerful reason behind Healtha. I realized that no one in Bangladesh should have to go through that kind of struggle. I decided, “I will build something that makes finding good healthcare simple, easy, and trustworthy for everyone, so no one has to feel what I felt.”
